Germantown Midshipmen to Perform with the Memphis Symphony Orchestra
A 2016 St. George’s Independent School and Germantown, Tennessee, native will be performing with the U.S. Naval Academy Glee Club as they join the Memphis Symphony Orchestra for Veterans Day.
Midshipmen Jake Lindow is a member of the internationally-acclaimed Glee Club and is in his sophomore year at the academy.
Lindow said that his experiences growing up in the Mid-South had a direct impact on his success at the academy.
“I was incredibly fortunate to grow up with strong support networks at both school and church. St. George’s Independent School’s holistic approach to education and their commitment to each and every one of their students helped prepare me for the rigorous academics at the Naval Academy,” he said. “I do not think I would be where I am today if it weren’t for the countless individuals at SGIS who personally invested in my future.”
Lindow believes that music can be a powerful took in connecting with people around the country and is excited to have the opportunity to share his experiences with his hometown.
“I’ve always found that music is a powerful way of bringing people together. The program we sing on tour is filled with patriotic classics, and at a time where our country can often feel so divided, using music to bring people together and inspire others is an incredible opportunity,” Lindow said. “Our program is about more than just sharing music; it’s about sharing the Naval Academy with those who may not otherwise be exposed to it.”
The Glee Club will perform as guest artists with the Memphis Symphony Orchestra in Memphis and Germantown for a two-concert series in November to commemorate Veteran’s Day. Featuring “A Salute to America’s Heroes”, the performances are scheduled for Saturday, November 11, 2017 at 7:30 p.m. at the Cannon Center for the Performing Arts and Sunday, November 12, 2017 at 2:30 p.m. at the Germantown Performing Arts Center.
