21st Annual W.C. Handy Heritage Awards
The 21st Annual W. C. Handy Heritage Awards honoring “Authentic Beale Street Musicians” celebrating W. C. Handy’s 144th Birthday will be held on Sunday, November 12, 2017 at The Guesthouse at Graceland 3600 Elvis Presley Blvd at 5:30 pm.
“Saluting Memphis Blues and Soul” music, this year’s awards is being dedicated to the memory of Stax Musician, Marvell Thomas. Grammy Award winner and Stax Recording artist, William Bell will receive the Lifetime Music Achievement Award. Also receiving the Lifetime Music Achievement Award will be recording artist and Grammy Nominated Shirley Brown, “Diva of Soul.” Other honorees include veteran blues singer, Blind Mississippi Morris, Gospel singer James Nelson, Saxophonist and R&B recording artist, Kenneth Jackson, R&B singer Melvia “Chick” Rogers-Williams, and Stax R&B artist Randy Brown.
Sponsored by the W. C. Handy Memphis Home & Museum Preservation Fund and Heritage Tours, the musical extravaganza will also include dinner and live entertainment.
