RISE Foundation Event Raises A Record $125,000 To Boost Financial Literacy
The RISE Foundation’s annual gala, “An Evening of Change,” raised $125,000 to support the nonprofit in its mission of transforming the lives of low-income Memphians through financial literacy education.
Although the gala has been held for the last four consecutive years, this is a record for RISE and speaks to its growing reputation as a community organization that’s truly making an impact.
RISE helps break the cycle of poverty through programs that teach low-wage earners about saving, budgeting, building credit and much more. The nonprofit also sets young people on the path to success through financial education and a focus on academic achievement, and teaches senior citizens how to budget and avoid falling victim to fraud and scams.
This year’s gala, held in late September at the FedEx Event Center at Shelby Farms Park, offered guests a new, interactive experience with a theme — An Evening in the Emerald City, which featured live entertainment from characters from the Wizard of Oz, cocktail-style dinner, dancing, a silent auction and special performances by the talented G3: Gary Goings Group.
The RISE Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, empowers people in our community to become self-sufficient by building and sustaining human and financial assets. We’ve pioneered strategies that help entry-level wage earners budget, save and accumulate assets. We use innovative techniques to equip youth with the financial literacy tools they need to become self-sufficient. Our work has led to a deeper understanding of the larger community issues working against families in Memphis and Shelby County.
